Waitlist OT is short term Occupational Therapy support to allow you to have access to services and support while you are on the waitlist elsewhere.
For parents, we use Parent Coaching to help you help your child, and for adults, we use similar coaching methods where we work together as a team to build your skills, confidence, and knowledge to support yourself or your child.
Absolutely! Parent/carer involvement is an important part of the therapy process for children.
Typically, an OT will see a child for one hour a fortnight. While we can make valuable change during that time, progress will be easier if the caregiver can be involved and help implement therapy practices at home. Parent coaching gets you started by giving you skills and strategies to support your child while you wait for your long term therapist.
We work to support people with goals relating to:
- Sensory regulation
- Emotional regulation
- Daily routines
- Self care
- Eating and feeding challenges
In order for you and your child to receive the best outcomes, we do not work in the following areas:
- Equipment prescription
- Assistive technology prescription
- People with profound and complex disabilities
- ABA therapy
- Complex behaviours of concern
- Mental health
Neuro-affirming therapy is a core foundation of Collaborative OT.
Neuroaffirming therapy is a therapy ethos that works to support and affirm neurodivergent people (e.g. Autistic people, ADHDers, people with OCD) and their differences, rather than viewing these as conditions that need to be ‘cured’. It works to celebrate people as they are, and doesn't work to change them to fit societies norms.
We work to help parents understand the strengths and differences of their children, and build strategies to help them as they are.
For us that means we do not:
- Work with ABA (applied behavioural analysis) or ABA-style therapy
- Expect compliance and blind obedience from children or adults
- Want people to mask (hide their true nature or to 'fit in')
- Expect neurodivergent people to act like neurotypical people
However, we do:
- Find ways to do the important things, even if they aren’t the ‘typical’ way
- Work to understand and alter the environment to suit the needs of the individual and the family
- Work to support and understand sensory differences
- Work to build and grow self-regulation and self-understanding skills
- Support families to understand and work with their children (and themselves)
We are located in Adelaide, South Australia but see clients from all over the country via telehealth. This means that wherever you are in Australia, we should be able to support you!
We have limited capacity for ongoing therapy. Please reach out via email at info@collaborativeot.com.au to see if we can fit you in.
We will always have capacity for immediate Parent Coaching and Short Term Therapy Support.
Your little one is welcome to be present (sometimes with care routines, we understand it can be a necessity) and they can often provide valuable insight into areas they need support with.
However, many parents find it difficult to discuss their child’s behaviour and difficulties when they are present.
Please also keep in mind that this is parent-based therapy where the goal is to upskill you to support your child. We trust you to make the right call as to whether your child is there or not.
You can book online by clicking here. The link will take you to our booking system, Halaxy, where you can select a time and day that works for you.
Support Coordinators can send an email to info@collaborativeot.com.au to organise an appointment.
You can book up to two weeks in advance with appointments available most Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Sessions are $193.99, in line with the NDIS price guide.
This includes 45 minutes of face to face time, and 15 minutes for the OT to complete admin tasks related to your care (e.g. sending and creating resources, sending follow up notes).
Reports, letters, and assessments are charged pro rata at the same rate. For example, if we spend thirty minutes writing a letter, we will charge $97.00 (half of $193.99).
We currently accept:
- Private paying clients
- NDIS self-managed
- NDIS plan-managed
You are welcome to seek rebates from your private health insurance with your invoice.
We do not currently accept:
- NDIA managed
We are registered with Medicare for Chronic Disease Management plans which allow you to receive a rebate off your appointment. Unfortunately, these rebates are available for Parent Coaching sessions.
You/your Plan Manager will be sent an invoice after your appointment.
Invoices can be paid via direct deposit or Pay ID and must be paid within five days.
Life happens and we get that sometimes you need to cancel appointments. But we are a small business, and need a cancellation policy to stay viable.
No shows are charged at the full rate and sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice are billed at the full rate. If that spot is filled by another paying client, we won't charge you.
If you have a genuine emergency, please get in touch and we will do what we can.
We take your card details as a back up in case of no-shows or non-payment. We are a small business and we simply couldn't operate if people didn't show up or pay.
We prefer payments through direct deposit or Pay ID as it keeps our business and admin costs low, meaning we can offer more appointments to people.
Card details are stored securely through our client management software, Halaxy. Collaborative OT or Halaxy cannot see your card details and they are stored securely and compliantly. You can read more about their security and safety here.
